Music Monday: BIRDY
I've said it a million times.
i love cover songs.
(and remixes)
one day in my wildest dreams i think i may quite possibly make a cover song album.
Anyways... with my love of cover songs... i have fallen in love with "BIRDY"
cause.. well she does a lot of them :)
Jessica has snuck a few on the monthly mixes...
her voice is really unique, she won a competition on some show or something in europe.. and has become quite a hit.
and she's pretty cute.
enjoy.

Music Monday: Rue Royale
I discovered Rue Royale somewhere in the myspace world about 5 or 6 years ago.
loved their sound, and downloaded their ep.
loved their sound, and downloaded their ep.
Well as time wore on, and hard-drives crashed... i lost and somewhat forgot about them.
til i discovered the amazing power of the i-cloud a few weeks ago and re downloaded a ton of old music i had.
Rue Royale being one of them... and i fell in love again.
its a sweet spirited worship sound, with profound lyrics and catchy tunes.
I'm so glad i re-discovered them, i can't wait to listen to their newer stuff.
you should check them out.

Music Monday: Dylan Taylor(cover)
My husband is a drummer, so sometimes i find myself totally sucked in when he watches drum covers on youtube. We watched this one the other night, and frankly i love it.
Before you skim over this and don't give it a chance...
well.. just try.
I know rap is not everyones cup of tea, i appreciate a little bit of everything now and then.
I will say i for sure cant run on a treadmill without something in this nature. But to each his own.
There are a couple things (some ive mentioned before) that i absolutely love when it comes to music:
- Remixes
- Covers
- Gang vocals
- Live Claps
- ...... annnnnnnd real drums with rap. (duh)
One time years ago before a Mates of State show, there was an opener "band" that was a dj and a drummer. The DJ would occasionally set up a beat... and then drum another beat with the other drummer.
it was awesome. i loved it. And from then on, its been one of my favorites.
Anyways all that to say... i love this drumcover of Jay Z and Kanyes 'Nigga$ in Paris' by Dylan Taylor
(sorry for the language, but that $h*+ cray)

music monday: remixes
I'm not sure if its cool or not, but i am the biggest fan of remixed songs, cover songs, and acoustic versions.
i guess maybe because usually when i like a song, i like it so much that i listen to it on repeat for 300 times... and then when i find another version.. its like a brand new song, but i know all the words.
and whats better than that?
i heard this version of one of my all time favorite songs by stars and it is such a cinematic remix, that i immediately imagined myself running down the streets of paris searching for my long lost lover.
(woah.. intense i know, i love remixes that much though)
the lyrics in this song, are scribbled on the inside of my soul...
and the stringed instruments of this version are oh so romantic.
aah.
okay just listen.
and then go listen to the original version.. because it is just as good.
okay, now on to the very opposite extreme....
covers of rap songs. (naturally)
my favorite...is "whatever you like" by Anya marina.
i have a notch on my bucket list to make an album someday that is solely cover rap songs.
and Anya Marina fueled my inspiration with TI's 'whatever you like'
and its super catchy... and one of my favorites.
i usually find myself laughing when i realize im singing this like a worship song in my car.
but whatever.
What are some of your favorite remixes/cover songs..
im always looking for new ones...
its kind of a hobby.

Music Monday: Lana del rey
Her name has been buzzing, so i downloaded it last week. With all my time in the car lately commuting to work.. i have almost every song memorized by now ;)
She has been described as a "self-styled gangsta Nancy Sinatra. Which may sound funny... but after listening to the entire album.. i would have to agree.
its different. and intriguing.
something new.
Also, even if her music isn't your cup of tea.. she is killing me with her flower crowns and her vintage style.

Music Monday: milo greene
Several weeks ago when we saw the civil wars we were oh so pleasantly surprised by the opener band... Milo Greene!
They blew me away. I think you would enjoy them to. :)
and their harmonies in this one are so so good,
aaahhh.
I don't ever really have moments in my days when i get to just listen to music anymore... but literally one night i put this cd in.. and drove around my neighborhood for half an hour just to enjoy it.
hope you enjoy.

Music Love
Okay, so im sure im creating some reputation by always talking about "amazing bands" and who you should listen to etc.. i mean.. who am i to say?
But REALLY, Charlotte is over flowing with amazing musicians and i can't help but spread the word!!
I've talked about Matrimony before on the blog, but they've been writing new music, touring like crazy, and are about to wind up their SXSW tour this weekend.. (which is so exciting, and if you live in charlotte you should definitely come out on monday)
anyways the band consists of some pretty amazing people:

Ashlee Brown being one of them... who is one of my close girlfriends.
Check out this video of them in Texas this past week... its one of their new songs, that i cant get out of my head.
Also- how cute is Ashlee?? one of the most stylish & beautiful people i know!

snow day(z)
hey-o.
what a crazy past couple of days.
so on fri/sat we had a crazy snow/ice day...
which turned out awesome.. in the park.. the boys snow boarded.. and sledded etc...
i watched them for a bit.. but chose to stay comfy and warm inside..
When lunchtime came around.. i decided to make some guacamole..
which turned out in a bloody disaster!
while trying to "catch the pit" with the knife... i instead slashed my thumb open!!!!
disgusting.
so a trip on the ice to the ER.
:(
3 stitches and lots of tears later... i was "all better"
Went to Greenville for the weekend.. to see my parents.. and Rachel.. who headed back to Korea yesterday :(
was hoping to be better to go back to work on tuesday... my thumb is STILL not functional!
(atleast to cut hair.. etc)
anyways im heading back tomorrow whether my thumb wants to join me or not!

the snowy hills.
luke and Jess (pre-guac disaster)

So yesterday on "our" rainy day off... had breakfast... (pink pancakes for val-day), ran some errands... ate an authentic lunch..
and then went to manifest to find some deals.

we left with 5 99cent cds 2 more seasons of "the Hill's" 'Baby Mama' & 'Sliding Doors'
luke picked out the 5 cds by solely 'picking by the cover' out of all 5 there was one 'bare-able' album... and by track 5 it turned country.
it was weird.
oh well.

Music
Watched American idol with Jessica. tonight.... Only really get into this show... "pre-hollywood" i may jump in on the episode when they do makeovers... (im a sucker for befores and afters..) but otherwise.. i get bored.
Jessica makes a music mix each month.. which is always awesome.. and pretty much the only form of new music i ever receive... im lazy.. and let her do the tune hunting these days.
check it out:

Also... besides the mixes that i adore from my sister..
tonight ive been listening to Austin Crane
seen them live a few times.. and always forget how much i really really like it...
been listening to it tonight on repeat.
('the first shall be' is my favorite)
oh ps:
(The pork tenderloin i made in the crock-pot this morning... turned out DELICIOUS!!!
